How do I care for my Haflingers?

Cork Latex Footbed: Before wear, treat the cork-latex footbed with a sealant. We recommend that you re-apply a sealant at least once a year if you wear your Haflingers regularly. Four Seasons Cork Renew protects, seals & waterproofs. Gently spot-clean the cork-latex footbed with a damp cloth to remove debris. Do not expose the cork to excessive amounts of water or soap as it may damage the cork and cause it to crumble.
Boiled wool slippers: Your favorite boiled wool slippers like the AS or novelty slippers can be machine washed on a gentle cycle with mild detergent for about 5 minutes. After washing, stuff your slippers with paper to reshape and let them airdry. You can put your soft-sole slippers (like the AS) in the dryer for a couple of minutes to remove excess water but do not leave them in for too long.
Outdoor slippers with a rubber outsole: Gently clean the upper with a soft brush or a damp rag that doesn’t pill. Let them airdry.
Classic clogs with the cork footbed: Use a soft brush to remove any dirt or debris. For heavier buildup spot-clean with a damp cloth and then brush gently. Chemicals & soaps are not recommended because it can compromise the natural breathability and the strength of the felt.
What size of Haflingers do I need?
This is a difficult question because all feet are made differently. A tip that we use for converting US sizing to European sizing is to add 31 to US women’s sizes and 33 to US men’s sizes. So, if you are a women’s US size 8, we would recommend a European size 39 (8 + 31 = 39). If you are a men’s US size 10, we would recommend a 43 (10 + 33=43). We also have a size conversion chart on our customer service page.
Why are some styles labeled unisex while others are labeled men’s or women’s?
If a shoe is labeled unisex, it just means that style is made in sizes larger than a 42. The unisex labeling does not affect the width of the shoe. A women’s size 38 and a unisex size 38 are the same size.
What are Haflinger slippers & clogs made of?
Most Haflinger styles are made from boiled wool. Boiled wool offers excellent temperature regulating properties, so your feet stay cozy when it’s cool but don’t get too sweaty after extended wear. Boiled wool also offers a flexible and adaptive fit to accommodate all different foot types.
Boiled wool is made by knitting wool yarns together and then agitating the material in boiling water. Agitating the fabric in hot water makes the fibers stick together. This allows the wool to retain its softness while creating a dense material.
Haflinger also makes a few select styles in high quality leather. You will see more of this as their spring offerings continue to grow.
Where are Haflingers made?
The Haflinger brand & design originated in Germany, but most Haflinger clogs & slippers are now made in Poland, Ukraine & Hungary.
