The Beginning of Wolky

Wolky was founded by Kees and Jan Diks in 1982 in the Netherlands. The brothers had worked in their grandfather’s shoe business and decided to strike out on their own by creating shoes that were ‘good for feet’; comfortable footwear was severely underdeveloped at this time. It wasn’t until 1989, after partnering with a Dutch shoe designer, that Wolky shoes finally made a breakthrough and people lined up to buy their footwear.

Where are Wolky Shoes made? 

Wolky shoes are sold throughout 16 different countries with more than 18 shoe lines per season alone. To keep up with their high demands, Wolky has partnered with various different factories across the globe. To support the high American demand for Wolky ladies shoes, Wolky set up their own factory in Mexico. To support the European demand, Wolky has factories in Spain and Portugal.

Wolky Shoes USA

Wolky had been making shoes in the Netherlands long before their first physical shop opened in Utrecht in 1995. Soon after, 1997 to be precise, Wolky opened up its business to the newly and continuously developed world wide web. While it was still strange to purchase shoes online at this time, this move helped Wolky gain even more popularity around the globe, including across the pond in the USA. It was at this time in 1999 that Wolky decided to look into finding a factory closer to their American consumers to help keep up with demand, without raising the prices thanks to extensive shipping from their factory in Portugal at the time. Due to a lack of needed factories, Wolky decided to just open up their own factory, set up a distribution center in the States, and ship shoes from Mexico instead of across the world. Thus, the in state, in person, distribution of Wolkies shoes had begun in the US.

Are some Wolky shoes narrower than others? 

Due to the construction, style and materials Wolky shoes are traditionally medium width shoes, with a few styles that are narrower. That, however, does not mean that they don’t have styles that wouldn’t work perfectly for anyone that is looking for a wider fitting shoe. The Wolky Nomad for example is constructed with Velcro straps that can adjust for those who love a little more width room. Every foot is different, so we always recommend trying on a pair for yourself to determine the best fit for any width.

Are Wolky shoes good for plantar fasciitis? 

Shoes with shock-absorbing soles and a multi-layered footbed and outsole are ideal for those who unfortunately suffer with PF. All Wolkies are designed for walking long distances, thus are crafted with shock-absorption and a complex footbed making them perfect in supporting and alleviating pain caused from PF.
