I love these shoes. I searched all over the internet for this exact look and type, and Skechers Tom Cats were only ones. They could be classifed as an oxford work shoe with a hiking-type sole and a black matte finish. For me, they're appropriate for anything from a short, spontaneous hike to a casual sportcoat, but your tastes may differ. The thick padding is extremely comfortable under a variety of conditions. At first I thought they were a tiny bit loose in the heel, but they broke in quickly and fit fine. The only problem: they're being discontinued by the manufacturer. Skechers replaced it with a roughly similar model (Alley Cats Mesago) with a translucent yellowish sole –– a Dr Martens ripoff IMHO. That's Skechers' fault, not Dodds'. If they appeal to you, grab 'em while you can. Dodds has a superb return policy. I bought two sizes, and returned one free of charge. THEIR CONDITIONS FOR RETURNS ARE EXCELLENT, BUT READ THEM BEFORE YOU ORDER. (See their web site.)
